Welcome to all returning and new students and their families! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer! It has been a busy and productive summer at SDCS! During the summer, the Science and Technology Center, two classrooms, and a new playground were added to the school grounds!
In addition to the new buildings and playground, the staff and teachers have been busily preparing for the 2011 – 2012 school year! I am excited to announce the addition of two new programs being offered to SDCS students. The addition of the Science and Technology Center will enhance the Science curriculum and students will have the opportunity to perform experiments in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as receive an introduction to careers in Architecture, Drafting, Engineering, Robotics, and Digital Videos. Also, through a prestigious college, the school will provide a new Foreign Language program including Latin, Spanish, and Mandarin. The Foreign Language program provides students with a blended learning experience. The classes will combine traditional classroom and on-line, distance instruction. This blended instruction is the wave of the future and will prepare students for their future educational pursuits!
In addition to the already established, academically rigorous curriculum, students have the opportunity to participate in various clubs and arts classes including violin and percussion lessons. The first session of the after school program will begin on September 6, 2011. Parents will be able to register their children at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 11, 2011. More information regarding the school year will be provided on this evening.
