Self Development Charter School

Our Mission

Our school's mission is to strive for excellence in education by helping develop lifelong learners. SDCS is built on a clear vision: an emphasis on the basics along with recognition and accommodation of each child's individual strengths and learning style. Our unique approach to education focuses on the increasingly important integration of new, research-based knowledge with traditionally upheld views that have withstood the tests of time. Our program is distinguished because it synthesizes new ideas and concepts with those that have worked well in the past.

Our History

The founder of Self Development Charter School (SDCS), Anjum Majeed, first started Self Development Preschool (SDP) in 1988 to provide children with an academically challenging environment supported by an engaging curriculum and dedicated staff. Parents wanted a similarly challenging environment for the children in kindergarten and beyond.

Consequently, SDCS was founded by Ms. Majeed in 2000, adjacent to the preschool. Although SDCS has grown from its modest beginning of 37 students, the growth process has been deliberate and thoughtful to preserve both academic and fiscal integrity. Today, SDCS’s population exceeds 300 students. Many students who begin with the preschool continue at SDCS through eighth grade, thus providing parents the assurance that their child receives a firm educational foundation.
